Most Michigan wedding photographers struggle year after year with establishing a price list. Pricing your work well could be the major factor to your success. Their are many different things to consider when developing your rates. Is this new adventure just for fun or are you looking to make a career from it? If it’s the latter then you need to treat it like a business.
Determine your business expenses before finalizing your rates. Most important is deciding how much you would like to earn. Before you can start shooting you will need clients. Therefore, marketing and advertising is another large expense. Once your established you should re-invest 10 percent of gross sales into advertising. This will help the flow of new clients coming every month. Without it your success will be limited.
I would recommend working from home for the first 6-9 months. Or you could use the local Starbucks to meet with new clients. I have been using this method for 6 years.
